After Your Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) Session in Virginia Beach, VA

What happens after an ART session?

Well there’s no homework! (haha) Now that we got that out of the way, here’s what you might want to know after your ART session!

An ART session usually ends with a new positive image, or progress is made in changing the original “scene” you came in with. Your narrative memory will remain intact, maybe with even more details than you have ever had before. You may be able to describe the original memory, but the way you see it will shift to your chosen positive images and you stop experiencing negative sensations. To sum it up, you “keep the knowledge, lose the pain!”

After your ART session, you may feel euphoric, calm, and a positive sense of well-being. You may find yourself feeling unusual or taken by surprise with the progress you’ve made. Others may notice that your attitude has changed, or there’s just something different about you. I know that even good changes can be stressful and may require an adjustment period. Other times, the core problem(s) may be completely resolved and you may feel ready to move on.

Sometimes, there are more scenes to process as the core problem is dismantled. It can take at least 3 sessions to resolve a core problem. If the problem is not completely gone or feels like it’s coming back, this can happen if all the triggers have not been uncovered. People can feel discouraged or wonder if ART is a good fit when this happens.

Please write down anything that comes up after your ART session. Your therapist can help uncover hidden triggers with ART and change them during your next session. If any of the changes are overwhelming or uncomfortable, you can process those feelings and integrate them with an ART session.
